Artist Stories and Arts Professional Stories address practical, strategic and philosophical issues through the real experiences of artists and the people who work with artists.  The first-hand experience in these essays provide solutions and inspiration, by addressing pertinent questions and sharing experiences with others in the field.  Over time, these "stories" become a living archive of creative activity in Chicago, a resource to both the art world and general public alike.  Check out the Artist Stories on CAR to date.

Everyone is invited to contribute an Artist Story or Arts Professional Story--whether you are an active artist, a teacher, an administrator, a funder or even an audience member. CAR posts are Google-friendly, so your essay will be a top Google Search result under your name.

QUESTIONS
You can browse through a range of questions we have prepared and choose a question that suits your practice and/or experience best.  Or, if you are interested in contributing a story that does not correspond to our existing set of questions, you can email us to suggest a question or issue you'd rather address.

GUIDELINES
CAR's Artist Story Editor will work with you to compose an essay of up to 1000 words, including a brief biography and an image or short video.

Try to be concise and specific, giving examples of how you solved certain problems or developed strategies to find your answers. Things to avoid are lengthy artist statements, extended biographies, and lists. We will preserve the voice, style, and intent of your story; however, we reserve the right to edit your artist's story for length, grammar and clarity. If we edit your story, we will request final approval from you before posting it on the site. We may also ask to you edit or rewrite your submission as necessary.

IMAGES
Each Artist's Story is posted with an accompanying image. This image can be documentation of your work, an image of you, or an image of you with your work.
