Visiting Program Coordinator of “Illinois at the Phillips” (a Joint
Program between UIUC and The Phillips Collection Center for the Study of Modern Art in Washington, D.C.

This is a 12-month, full-time, visiting academic professional position beginning as soon as possible after the close date. Contingent on funding, this visiting position may become regular. Salary commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
The central task of this employee is to run the Champaign-Urbana office of the Illinois at the Phillips Program and to carry out the directives of the director of the program. The tasks will include a broad range from simple errands, scheduling, making travel arrangements, coordination of events, correspondence, budgeting, and organizing of the office, to advising and
recruiting students for the program, writing grant applications, annual reports and news releases, handling public relations, overseeing the day to day operations of the program, coordinating with staff in Washington, and looking after the needs of students and fellows in the program as necessary. There are also a variety of creative projects generated out of the office, including books, exhibitions and films that this person will coordinate under the supervision of the director. This person will need to go to Washington to arrange aspects of the program, such as arranging
housing for students and becoming familiar with museum staff and facilities in Washington. However, he or she will be headquartered in Champaign in the School of Art and Design. The hours will generally be weekdays during regular business hours, but hours may vary to accommodate office needs, including campus meetings, errands, and other out-of-office activities.
Occasionally events and other tasks may require work after hours or on weekends. The successful candidate will take the initiative to identify and accomplish tasks for the program and the director without requiring micromanagement. It is also expected that this person will be available to the director by cell phone or e-mail for consultation occasionally during evenings and weekends, but otherwise work outside of normal office hours would be infrequent.
 
Qualifications:
The position requires strong writing and interpersonal skills and a
bachelor’s degree, preferably in art or a related discipline. Familiarity with and an ability to manage the administrative procedures at the University of Illinois, an understanding of finance and budgeting, a knowledge of modern and contemporary art and an acquaintance with art museums, as well as some general grasp of computer technology (including basic office computer skills) as it applies to art projects and museum
informatics, is desired.
